Purple Ombre Cake

Sliced Purple Ombre Cake

OK, can we talk about ombre for just a minute? Possibly the only cake trend that I love more than the Semi-Naked cake, this design aesthetic has been going strong since the early 2000s and shows no sign of slowing down.

The concept of slowly blending one color from a lighter shade into a darker one has been around since 1841 in the textile industry, but the word “ombre” didn’t make its way into the Oxford English Dictionary until 2005.

Once the celebrity set had adopted the style for their hair, the baking world was soon to follow, exploring a variety of ways to incorporate the beauty of the ombre into cakes and cupcakes. Our signature purple ombre cake is just one of a thousand ways to incorporate this gradient look into a dessert.

Ombres can be done in any color - or combination of colors - and can be used inside or outside the cake. Or both! Colors can be blended together like a sunset or left in distinct patterns and designs, like flowers or mermaid scales. Ombre can even be used to transition from one flavor to another within the cake!

You can create an ombre design with a display of cupcakes or cake pops or even by just using sprinkles or candy. The possibilities are truly endless - and delicious - no matter what you choose!
